new tool: calculate volume (ellipsoid method)

I got an idea fora new tool...
why not implementing a 3 plane measure tool to calculate prostate volume with the ellipsoid method (width x height x length x 0.52)?

every ultrasound machine has it but when you read MR images of prostate you have to draw the 3 measures separately on an axial and sagittal sequences, then annotate the results and do the math using a calculator.

it would be great if RadiAnt could do the math immediately after drawing the 3 line measurement.

I mean, you take those 3 measures with the standard "line" tool, then you go in the "advanced tool" submenu and click "calculate volume (ellipsoid method).

I think that should not be hard to implement.

with the same approach you could measure a ratio between 2 measures...
you take 2 lenght measures then calculate the ratios.

i.e. grade a carotid stenosis diameter percentage

i.e. grade an anterior wedge vertebral fractures.

a polite ping to remind these useful measurement tool feature requests.

as suggested a "calculate volume (ellipsoid method" after drawing the 3 main diameters would be very useful when dealing with prostate US images.

and a "calculate ratio" would be a bless when dealing with US, MR and CT of carotid stenosis and even when grading a wedge vertebral fracture.

Following Tommy's advices I'd also like to suggest the introduction of area calculation for ROI (drawn, for example, with the pencil tool), since the ellipse tool can't always be 100% accurate.

It would also be extremely useful, in some situations, to generate and calculate the volume obtained from a series of ROI positioned on subsequent slices (and even generate missing ROIs between drawn ROI).

Freehand ROI area calculation is something that we plan to add in the future.
We will also consider the volume calculations you mentioned.

Dear Team Radiant

I would like to suggest you incorporate in the software a tool to measure Consolidation/Tumor ratio (CTR). CTR is a means to classify Ground Glass Opacities of the lung and therefore an essential element to decision making. I think this addition would render your programme unmatchable even if it came with a purchase option (which i hope will not)!

Hi

In line with the previous comments about ROIs, I suggest you add a 3D quick spherical VOI feature.

This would be very useful for SUVmax measurement in PET, because with 2D ROI one has to draw an ellipse in every single slice of a large lesion searching for the hottest pixel. ROI interpolation would also solve this problem, like in Osirix/Horos, but spherical VOI is much easier and takes less time.

Thanks for your great work. After a long search, I still believe Radiant is by far the best PET/CT viewer for Windows (excluding of course commercial workstations like Oasis, IntelliSpace or Xeleris).

I appreciate your work and understand that how you are busy, but once again, these are really "must have" features:

1. simple VOI for volume calculation, with SUVmax (SUVmean) values in PET fusion images.
2. Freehand area calculation ROI.

also will be better:

3. Semiautomatic VOI tool - volume calculation by automatic drawing between given (manually drawn) two/more freehand ROI.
4. A histogram tool - HU value histogram of pixels in ROI
5. Automatic tumor delineation tool in given VOI - This is specially used in calculation of liver tumor volume for embolisation and in PET images for calculation of Metabolic Tumor Volume (MTV) and Total Lesion Glycolysis (TLG).

Please check our latest beta version. It does have the closed polygon ROI (which is not entirely "freehand": you deposit points through which a curve is drawn).

the 3 diameters ellipsoid method tool to calculate volume would be a time saver in prostate MRI reading

the first thing a user always does while reading this exams is to draw the 3 measures of prostate in 3 planes, then move to the Windows Calc tool, manually add those 3 values and multiply by 0.52

having a tool who does all the math as soon you draw the latest measure would be very nice

Currently you could only use the closed polygon tool to measure areas in subsequent slices, multiply these values by slice thickness, and calculate the sum. This would be quite a tedious process, however.
