Synchronization of Secondary Capture and Original Data

Hi,
I'm trying to create derived "SC Image CIOD" based on "MR Image CIOD" primary data, so the SC will synchronize with the primary data in RadiAnt Viewer.

So far I derived all possible tags from MR Image and filled all relevant tags in General Reference Module, Common Instance Reference Module, and SC Image Module. Still, my SC does not synchronize with the primary data or even with SC itself.

I've found multiple hints on this forum that "Synchronization is available for images that have spatial location data included in the DICOM file". However, SC Image does not provide any tags about spatial location.

What am I missing?

Regards

The problem has been solved by changing derived "SC Image" into derived "MR Image". It turns out that it is impossible to synchronize SC Image as it does not have Image Plane module. Though, it is still illogical to me that Secondary Capture does not synchronize with original data by design.

Krzysiek,

The synchronization mechanism used in RadiAnts synchronizes and aligns images based on their spatial location. If the required tags are present in SC images, they will be synchronized. These tags are:

(0020,0032) DS -70.800\-107.500\-55.500 # 3, 24 Image Position (Patient)
(0020,0037) DS 1.000000\0.000000\0.000000\0.000000\1.000000\0.000000 # 6, 54 Image Orientation (Patient)

Thanks, but the problem is I cannot see these tags in SC Image CIOD specification: dicom.innolitics.com/ciods/sc-image

That is correct; SC images were not meant to have spatial location info included. Just have a look at the list below.

"The Secondary Capture (SC) Image Information Object Definition (IOD) specifies images that are converted from a non-DICOM format to a modality independent DICOM format.

Examples of types of equipment that create Secondary Capture Images include:

Video interfaces that convert an analog video signal into a digital image

Digital interfaces that are commonly used to transfer non-DICOM digital images from an imaging device to a laser printer

Film digitizers that convert an analog film image to digital data

Workstations that construct images that are sent out as a screen dump

Scanned documents and other bitmap images including hand-drawings

Synthesized images that are not modality-specific, such as cine-loops of 3D reconstructions"

Hi!

I try to synchronize CT and SC series but it doesn't work. SC images have image position and image orientation tags. What is the reason to disable the synchronization of SC series?

You also need Pixel Spacing (0028,0030).

Pixel Spacing is the same for the original CT and SC images. Any other suggestions?

Would you be able to provide a sample file from each series (CT and SC)? This way we could investigate your issue. You can contact us directly: https://www.radiantviewer.com/contact/
